HAPPENING AT 1STFrom small group studies to big community events there are many ways 1st Church works to REACH people and help them be a part of what is happening at 1st throughout the year. WHO WE ARE
PASTORS AND STAFF1st United Methodist Church was established in 1865 as the Methodist Episcopal Church. It's history, though dates back to the Mount Gilead Church which was built around 1822.
As part of the worldwide United Methodist Church, we share a mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
1st UMC-Maryville is part of the Holston Annual Conference of the UMC and the Smoky Mountain District of the UMC.
1ST UMC AT SYCAMORE TREE
1ST UMC @ SYCAMORE TREEIn late January 2023, the Sycamore Tree United Methodist Church gathered for its last worship service and subsequently closed. The church’s property, consisting of a 17,000 square foot building on a 5 acre lot at 1830 Clydesdale Street, became the responsibility of the Smoky Mountain District and ultimately the Holston Conference.
The Holston Conference trustees voted to convey the property to the congregation of 1st UMC Maryville, with the condition of accepting the remaining indebtedness associated with the property.
Currently the 1st UMC @ Sycamore Tree Campus is serving as a ministry hub for the community.
Family Promise of Blount County, Compassion Counseling and DayBreak Dementia Respite Care Ministries all call the facility home.
HEALING HURTS, HABITS AND HANG-UPS
CR @ 1stEveryone has hurts, habits, and hang-ups, but you don't have to carry them by yourself. Celebrate Recovery @ 1st is a Christ-Centered recovery ministry serving Maryville and the surrounding area.
You are welcome at Celebrate Recovery which meets Wednesday nights.
Dinner is at 5:30
Worship is at 6:30
Share Groups meet at 7:40.
WESLEY DAY SCHOOL
ButtonWesley Day School is a preschool program meeting three mornings each week ofthe school year here at 1st UMC.
The school operates independently from 1st UMC and serves three, four, and five year old children.

Worship is at the heart of everything we do at 1st Church. It is one of the main ways to REACH people.
Whether you are ready to join us in-person or prefer to explore from home, we make it easy for you to see what worship is like at 1st Church.
Each Sunday morning you have several options for worship including an early morning traditional service at 8:15 or one at 10:30. We also have a Contemporary Worship service at 10:30. And on Wednesday evenings we offer a service aimed at healing your hurts, habits and hang-ups.
Whether you're ready to come in-person or still checking us out online you can "try out" all of our services online via a variety of platforms.

No one has all the answers and that's why we believe it is important to EQUIP you with the tools needed to grow in your faith. Through these steps of discipleship, the end goal is to have others see Christ in you.
So whether it's becoming a member of a Sunday School Class, a small group or singing in a choir, we welcome you to become a part of this church community and feel equipped to grow in your faith.

Church can happen when giving your time gives someone new hope and when opening hearts inspires joy.
When we SEND people out into the mission field they are following their call to Go.Do.
From there they continue to REACH, CONNECT & EQUIP others to be SENT into the world as disciples of Christ.
Volunteers from 1st UMC are serving as the hands and feet of Christ in different ways within the church, throughout Blount County and the world.
